Beyond The Basics Part 1-Spot Effects
The purpose of this tutorial is to expand upon Mike Wich’s excellent introduction to the basics of the Kristal Audio Engine Free Software.
You can effect tracks on spots by copying your track to a second channel, cutting the spot you want effected and applying the effect to that “effect” track. I will demonstrate here.
Lets say you want to create a delay effect on the last note of a particular passage. In this example, I’m going to apply a delay effect to one word in the lyric line while leaving the rest of the line unaffected.
On my song “Confusion”, at the end of the third verse, before the instrumental break the line “I need some time to clear my mind” appears with the word “mind” going into an infinite echo. This is how this was done.
1. I opened the lead vocal wav in TWO wavers, naming one “Lead Vocal” and the other “Mind”Effect”
2. I located the word “mind” on the wav, which occurs at the 3:10 time mark.

3. Next, I clicked on the “Scissors” tool in the toolbar above the time bar.

4. I “cut out” the word “mind” by clicking on both sides of it with the scissors tool.

5. On the toolbar, next to the scissors, I clicked the arrow icon.

6. On the Lead Vocal waver I highlighted the cut where the word “mind” is.
A red border appears.

7. I pressed the Delete key to delete the word “mind, then I went to the “Mind Effect” waver and highlighted the areas before and after the word “mind” and deleted them.

8. I then went to the channel for the waver for the “Mind Effect” and applied the Kristal Multi Delay effect plug in and set it up the way I wanted it.

Keep in mind that you can do this
with any instrument or vocal.
